Getting Prepared Part 3

This week we have taken our last few steps in getting prepared for Kindergarten.  I never imagined there would be so much to do to get C ready.  I'm exhausted.

Our final health check was a trip to the dentist.  This was C's first time to a dentist.  I know she's five, don't judge.  It was just one of those things I kept saying I'll get around to it and never did.

I took her to a pediatric dentist thinking it would make the whole experience better.  WRONG!  Two minutes after arriving, she looked at me wild eyed and said, 'I have to go to the bathroom, like RIGHT NOW!'  She had worked herself into a tizzy.  I felt terrible for her and I tried to explain what they were going to do but it didn't help.  They even had all kinds of fun things to do but after about a minute of playing, she sat next to me and told me her belly hurt.

I knew it was her nerves and again tried my best to calm her down.  When were called back, the first thing they wanted to do was an x-ray.  C freaked out and started crying because the machine looked scary.  After about 5 minutes of her freaking out, the hygienist said we could do it next time.  She walked off to get our room ready and I had a chat with C.  I explained what the machine did and that if she wanted, she could close her eyes while they took the x-ray.  After our pep talk, she agreed to the x-ray.  At this point, I thought we were golden.  That is until we walked back to the room where she would be getting her teeth cleaned.

One look inside and she stopped at the door crying and shaking her head no.  Something about the chair scared her and she wasn't sitting in it.  Here we go.  Drink please!  The dentist told her she didn't have to sit in the chair and that she could sit in my lap.  She climbed in my lap and I could feel her shaking.  Poor girl. The dentist did a quick check of her teeth and all looked great.  She also said that if C wasn't up to getting her teeth cleaned, that we could do that next time.  I told her that if they would explain to her what's going to happen, she'll be fine for next time.  The hygienist was sweet and showed her all her tools and told her what each one did.  I'm hoping next time everything will go smoothly because I've had about all the fun I can have with these dang doctor's appointments.  I would send Brent but he has zero patience and I'm positive, one doctor's visit with him, C would never go to another appointment.

After her appointment, I had a few errands to run.  It was during these errands that C told me that one day when she got big, she was going to move out of our house and move into her own house.

Why is my sweet, precious 5 year old already thinking about leaving me?  This was WAY too much for me to handle.  I mean I'm already crying everyday about her starting Kindergarten so the thought of her being all grown up and leaving is just too much for me.  She is going to force me to get medicated.

And to add to my crazy mama hormones, we had a meeting last night at C's new school.  Nothing like giving my mind time to process all of these new experiences.

The Kindergarten teachers held a meeting for the parents to ask questions and for the kids to see the classrooms.  C was a little nervous at first but ended up going back to watch a movie and eat popcorn while we had our meeting.  We didn't realize two of her friends from school were already there and she said that made her less nervous.  Plus a little girl from her Sunday School class was also there.  We found out they are moving and will be in our district!  The little girl's dad saw us and said he was so relieved to see a familiar face.  We hear ya!

We seem to be in a really good district and all the teachers were really nice and sweet.  They understood our nerves about sending our babies off to school, as most of them have small children of their own.  It also helped us that a good friend of mine is friends with one of the Kindergarten teachers.  She made this discovery after our conversation the other night at dinner.  I can't tell you the weight that was lifted off my shoulders.  I'm praying we get her as a teacher but I know any of them will be great.

We are finally finished with our our prep work until the end of July.  We have to work on a few things at home over the summer but other than that, we can sit back and enjoy our last few months before school starts.

Our Weekend

We had such a chill weekend that it was hard getting in gear this morning.

Friday night, I had a much needed Girls Night Out with three of my friends.  We talked for 3 straight hours and it was so nice not have to entertain anyone or share my meal.  :)  Brent had a guys night with Uryah and C went to spend the night with my parent's.

Saturday morning, I made the executive decision that U needed to go to the doctor.  He has been congested off and on for a while but on Friday night, he started coughing a lot and sounded more congested.  He was diagnosed with a double ear infection (he is the same age C was when she got her first one).  She put him on an antibiotic for his ears and told us to give him Benadryl every 6 hours.

She asked if he tugged at his ears or if he ever had a fever.  He never had either and hasn't been fussy.  The only way we ever knew C had one is she would run a fever 1 day and be fine the next.  The doctor told us they must have a high tolerance of pain if they never acted like it bothered them.

Naturally, B blamed me as soon as she left since they are hereditary and I got them a lot as a child.  At least U doesn't seem bothered by it.

The rest of Saturday was spent working on projects, doing no less than 100 loads of laundry and playing with U until C came home.

Sunday, after church we did a whole lot of nothing.

We played outside and did a lot of relaxing.

It was just the weekend we needed because we have something every weekend all through the month of May.

Getting Prepared Part 2

Yesterday, we took C to register for Kindergarten.  It was a simple process and thankfully I held it together.

C thought she was going to stay and start school that day.  I swear the more anxiety I have about her starting Kindergarten, the more she proves to me she can handle it.  We have a few open houses' at school over the next couple of months and I'm hoping her excitement only grows from that.

After registration, we had to make a not so fun stop by her pediatrician's lab to get blood work and give a urine sample.  Both are required before she starts school and I have done my best to prepare her for this trip except I didn't know there would be blood work.  Mama fail.

I was slightly nervous about how she would do because even though she has had 2 surgeries, she has never been awake for the needles.  I got even more nervous when the nurse asked if we needed to go to the bedroom.  I had no idea what that meant but I assumed it meant restraining her and that would be worse than the actual needle.  I assured her C could handle it and doubled checked with C that she would be ok.  She climbed in my lap, put her head in my chest and softly cried through the whole thing.  She didn't flinch or make a big scene.  That is until we had to go to the bathroom for the urine test.  That's when the tears got bigger and her cries got a little louder.  By this time I'm sweating bullets and nothing I'm doing is calming her down.  Things are starting to get a little more dramatic.  I finally managed to get her to calm down enough to do what we needed to do.  Of course that's when I get super dramatic about the position I have to be in to get the urine sample and nearly lose it because my arm is in a PUBLIC TOILET!

We get back out to the waiting room where B was waiting and he had the gaul to say, "Well that was pretty easy.  Everything went great right?"  Umm, yes dear it did.  I just had my arm in a PUBLIC TOILET and your child and I are both sweating profusely but no big deal.

Her and I both needed a treat after that experience.  She requested Chic-fil-a and she was all smiles by the time we got there.  I needed a stiff drink but a Diet Dr. Pepper had to do.

The Dude

I've been looking back at old posts when C was a baby and I noticed I took pictures of her every time she breathed or at least that's what is looks like.  I have been a major slacker with Uryah so this post is simply dedicated to him and all his cuteness.

Shocker that big sis is in his face.

Thankfully, right now he doesn't mind.  What he does mind is you taking away his bottle even when it is empty.

And I could watch him sleep all day.

Fun in the Sun

Since the weekend turned out to be gorgeous, we gave C a list of things to do outside.  Naturally she picked going to the park and feeding the ducks as one of the activities.

Sadly, the whole town was at this particular park doing the same thing so the ducks weren't interested.

The whole town was also at the playground.  C was done about 10 minutes in.

Since we had tons of daylight left, we decided to go on a little hike to Lost River Cave.

This was both B and C's first time to the cave.

We are planning another trip to hike a little more and to do the boat tour when Uryah isn't with us.  I nearly died hiking back up with a 16 pound baby strapped to my chest.  I'm really out of shape.  Well, I can't really say that because I was never in shape to begin with so it might do me good to have a 16 pound baby strapped to my chest.  :)

After Lost River Cave, I took C to see Cinderella.

She has been dying to see the movie so we had a little girls night.

Sunday after church,

(Sorry have to include our Sunday morning pic.  C asked if we were going to do this every week.  Umm yes!)

C's friend had a birthday party at Chaney's Dairy Barn.

They played on the playground for awhile, then it was hayride time.

Hayride selfie.

The ride took us to the farm where the kids got to meet one of the calves.

They all loved it!

At the end of the party, they all got to jump on the SUPER safe bubble thing.

I don't even know how this things is legal, but the kids loved it.  Us moms were just waiting for someone to break something or get whiplash.

And this is what U thought of all the birthday fun.

Getting Prepared

Getting ready for kindergarten is no joke.  These little pint sizes have to know their address, parent's names, phone numbers and several other personal facts.  We've worked with C, along with her school, over the last couple of months to make sure she is ready.

Along with all of this comes several physical exams as well.  She had her physical with her pediatrician a couple of weeks ago where we learned, although everything is normal and she looks great, she hasn't gained weight in her last 3 visits to the doctor.  Since she hasn't been sick lately, we are guessing she has been the same weight for about a year to year and a half, if not longer.  Not a huge deal but we do have to start helping her pack on the pounds and do it in a way that doesn't cause problems later.  The doctor recommended giving her a milkshake a day.  The devastation was written all over her face.

Those are definitely not my genes.

It's going to be a tough road for us because EVERY time I set her plate in front of her, she asks how many bites she has to eat.  Urgh!

Our next fun little doctors visit was to the eye doctor.

We are so lucky that my eye doctor moved to BG and he also happens to be a family friend.  It made C relax more knowing that he was my doctor and that he knew her Momois and Pap.

She thought he was so funny!

She does have a touch of farsightedness but he said that it typically of young children and that she would mostly grow out of it.  We will just monitor it at her yearly check ups.  Now those are my genes.  B and I both pray neither of our children get his eye sight.  He is blind as a bat.

Next up is the dentist and I can't wait for that.  Its always a great time!  *Insert MAJOR sarcasm*

Easter Weekend

For the first time in 8 years, Brent had Good Friday off so we made the most out of our extra family time.  We tried to go bowling but our cable company decided to have a company outing and apparently bowling was the big activity.  The place was packed!  We had to go to plan B which was Barnes and Noble and ice cream.  C wasn't as thrilled with that option but with the promise of going the next day, she perked up a bit.

On Saturday morning, we got our hind ends in gear so we could beat whatever crowd might be at the bowling alley.  Thankfully, the place was almost empty and one little girl was really happy.

C loves her some bowling.  She gets excited and high fives regardless of how many pens she knocks down.

After bowling, we ran a few errands and spent the rest of the day playing and hanging out.

On Easter morning, the kids woke up to their big surprises.

Sorry no pics of U.  He was napping during all this.

After church, we headed to my Granny's house for Easter lunch with my Dad's side of the family.  My mom and Granny fixed a few dozen eggs for C to hunt.  The Easter bunny had fun hiding them.  :)

And C had a blast finding them.

We told her she was going to have competition next year so she better step up her game.  ;)

The best part was finding out what was inside the eggs.

I'm pretty sure this is our first picture as a family of 4 outside the hospital.

Clearly I need to step up that game.

3 Months

Uryah was 3 months old yesterday.

He is approximately 15 pounds, wears mainly 6 month clothes (he can squeeze into 3 months if it is made big) and wears size 2 diaper.

He is by far the most chill baby ever.  The only time he cries is when he is hungry and let me tell you, if that bottle isn't in his mouth in .02 seconds, get ready for a full on fit!  Big boy loves him some food!

Except for actual food.

We introduced rice cereal the other day and he was not a fan.

He had two bites and then started screaming.  I think we are going to wait a little bit before we try again.

He is a really good sleeper.

He started sleeping through the night around the beginning of this month and is now on his own little schedule.  He wakes up most mornings around 6am, will cat nap throughout the day at daycare, then comes home and take a good 1 to 2 hour nap.  He usually goes down for the night around 8ish depending on when he last feeding is.

He loves when you talk to him and tries so hard to talk back.

Some of his favorite this to do are laying on his play mat so he can stretch out and kick his feet and sitting in the bouncy seat so he can see what's going on.

People ask us all the time how C is doing with him and let me tell ya, her love for him has not let up!  She loves being around him and is constantly rubbing and kissing all over him.  She tells me its because 'he is just sooo cute and soft.' ;)

I've tried not push him on her or ask too much of her.  I want them to develop their own relationship on their own terms and I want her to help out only when she wants.  So far it's worked out because 9 out of 10 times, she will run get a diaper or his paci without me asking.

She has asked us to move her car sear to the center of the backseat so she can sit right next to him.  She'll sit back there and talk to him and if he gets fussy, she will pop his paci in and start singing to him.  It is so sweet.

I love watching them together and can't wait to see their relationship grow.
